Today I’m sharing something very special with you.
Matresa has officially closed its pre-seed funding round led by SFC Capital.
This is a huge milestone for us, but more importantly, it’s a milestone for the future of maternal health.
Matresa began long before it had a name.
It began in hospital corridors, in quiet conversations with mothers, and in moments where I saw how often women’s needs disappeared once a baby arrived.
I started my career as an intensive care nurse. Even then, I could see the gaps in how mothers were supported across pregnancy and beyond. Later, when I became a mother myself and experienced a traumatic birth with my first child, those gaps became deeply personal.
I knew something had to change.
Today in the UK, maternal outcomes are worsening. One in five women experiences mental health challenges or serious complications after childbirth, and many of these outcomes are preventable with earlier, more continuous support. Yet maternal care is still largely reactive, fragmented and inconsistent.
Matresa exists to change this.
We are building personalised, preventative maternal health support that wraps around mothers from preconception through pregnancy, postpartum and the return to work, connecting physical, emotional and social health in one continuous experience.
This funding allows us to accelerate that vision.
Over the past months, we’ve assembled an exceptional team and advisory board, and worked alongside clinicians, employers and system leaders through the Accelerate FemTech program to ensure Matresa is built around what mothers truly need.
We’re also working with employers to support mothers during maternity leave and return-to-work transitions, one of the most overlooked periods in women’s health and workforce participation.
And we are only just beginning.
Matresa exists because of mothers, their stories, their experiences, their courage in sharing what isn’t working. If you are part of this community, please know that you are shaping this work with us.
Thank you for being here, for believing in a better future for maternal health, and for supporting this journey.
